Dzibilchaltún

WOW! That's all I can say! Today was an awesome day!

A van came and picked us up from our houses and took us to some Mayan ruins called Dzibilchaltún.

It is so cool to see the actual things that the Mayans created that we're learning about.  We walked through a museum to see the artifacts that they have found throughout the ruins.

This one is the god of rain. They call him Chac Mool.  But what's funny about him is that his name is also the Mayan word for redhead.  So a few Mayan people have called me that and I didn't understand but now it all makes sense.

They Mayan houses are teeny tiny but they're so beautifully made.  The walls of the houses are made of adobe and the roofs are made out of palm leaf.  The kitchen house is made out of branches with a thinner roof so that the smoke could escape.

Then we headed to el Templo de 7 Muñecas (7 dolls). That is where they found those 7 little figurines that we saw in the museum.  It's so amazing to me that the Mayans made buildings like this one.  With out any machines or real tools-all by hand.  They were so smart.  Each window was positioned just so that the sun would shine through just right during each season.

It was sunny and hot and sticky but it was absolutely beautiful!
Then we headed to the cenote! On our way we stopped and took some pictures at a few more ruins

Anyways, back to the cenote...The Yucatan peninsula is made mostly out of lime stone which is very porous.  So all over the peninsula there are natural craters above and under ground that fill with natural spring water.  They're always beautiful and full of clear clean water.

We took some pretty cool underwater pictures but in this one we got photo bombed by a fish!

That seems like a pretty exciting day, right!? That was just the half of it.  Once we got out of the cenote we headed to the beach house of one of the host families for a party with all of the students and all of the host families.  It was so so beautiful.  It was on the same beach as the house that we went to on Sunday.

They had guys come to make us tacos-not just any tacos; they were tacos de cochinita!! They're the best tacos I've ever eaten.

Also they bought us a costco cake that said felicidades!! It was so cute that they were so excited to have us there! It was a real party!

Also Malena convinced me to take a "mordida" out of the cake and then she pushed my face into it! She thought that she was SO funny!!
