Uxmal

WOW!  That's all I can say! WOW!

The Mayans were absolutely amazingly intelligent people. This was such a cool  place.  First of all, I love being in Mayan and Yucatan culture classes and learning about the history and then going to see where they lived and what they created.

This is the main temple in the city of Uxmal.  This is the very first thing we saw as we walked in.  It's huge and amazing.

We walked through the majority of this ancient city in awe. Of course, we climbed anything we were allowed to.  Most thing we were allowed to climb up except for the main temple.

The last building that we climbed up was the tallest..yikes!  It was high up on a hill but also had hundreds of steps.  The steps were surprisingly tall for how short the Mayan people are.  It was an amazing view.  From the top we could see all the other buildings that we had been to.

After exploring this amazing ancient city we walked to a hotel that is right at the entrance of Uxmal to eat.  On our way there we came across a Ceiba tree.  This tree is sacred to the Mayan people.  It is the center of their entire system of religious belief.  It is what connects the underworld to the heavens.

We ate at a fancy buffet. They food was all very fancy but it was good.  Then we swam and hung out in the pool at the hotel until it was time to go to the show we had planned.

Also there were iguanas everywhere all day long...even in the
trees!

Anyways, we went to a show called "luz y sonido".  We sat in the middle of the ruins and watched as they were lit up and listened to the story of the people of Uzmal who prayed to Chac, the god of rain, and it eventually came!
