Josue at the Albergue

So I finally found out the name of the place where we go on Tuesdays.  It's called an albergue-which technically means hostel.  It's such a cool place.  I love that Malena goes every week to make dinner and now it's a tradition that we go with her.  This week our whole group showed up.  The people there get so excited.  They love having company for a little bit and we usually sing which they really love!

This week there was a special someone there named Josue. Here's a little background info on him.  Malena and her friends met him 2 years ago when he came to stay at the albergue with his family.  They were there because his mom was getting a tracheostomy which is a permanent breathing tube in her throat.  Josue would always play by himself and ignore anyone who tried to play with him.  It turns out he is completely deaf.  So Malena and her friends got the ball rolling and got him in to see a Dr.  So now he's 9 and he's back for some more in depth testing.

He's such a happy kid!  It's amazing!  He knows very little sign language but he pretty much makes up his own ways to communicate.  He had this cook spinning top that you wrap a string around and then send it flying...he was REALLY good at it.  He could send it flying and then catch it in his other hand.  It was pretty funny that the guys in our group were trying and were far from being able to do it.  He was laughing pretty hard at them!
