El Dia de la Madre

Mothers' Day in Latin America is always May 10th no matter what day of the week it is.  This year it happened to fall on a Saturday.
This morning I made breakfast for Malena, her daughter, and Raquel and myse.  I made Dad's famous breakfast caseroul but of course it didn't turn out as good as his...he is the master!

Then in the afternoon we went to Malena's brother's hacienda.  So it was never a working hacienda, it's really just a vacation home. It was absolutely gorgeous.  It's this perfect brick rad and yellow mexican style home in the middle of a mini jungle.

I had to face my fears today BIG TIME!  There were birds all over the place! Some of them were pretty cool though.  There were 2 peacocks and a whole bunch of peahens.

This guy was freaky but he was also really pretty.

We all sat around all afternoon and ate, and talked, and joked around.  The kids all got in the pool and all the guys played kickball.  I love that this culture is so centered around their families.  They get together every single Sunday even if it's for just an hour or so.
